Released online and in cinemas in time for the 2019 Christmas season, the award-winning video evoked the very essence of “Awaken Amazing”. Directed by award-winning director Joel Limchoc, together with MRM//McCann and New Zealand’s Cirkus Productions, the video depicts life’s moments set entirely in miniature-scale models of Ayala Malls. Every painstaking detail of the set was built from scratch, including 3D printing models, and carving and painting environments. The result is a charming film that brings small moments to life in a fresh amazing way.

In an unprecedented crisis brought about by COVID-19, the Philippines’ largest island (Luzon) was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine on March 16, 2020. Businesses were disrupted, mass transportation was halted, malls were closed down except essential stores, and anxiety loomed as resources became limited.

Project Ugnayan – led by Ayala Malls’ parent company Ayala Corporation – was formed together with other big business groups to respond to the need of the most vulnerable in the country, with a goal to distribute P1,000 grocery vouchers to over 1 million households in poor Metro Manila communities to help with their basic necessities.

To draw people in, Ayala Malls took the battle away from floor space into the digital space with an integrated digital campaign anchored by “The Wishing Tree,” – a film that reminded people what made Ayala Malls special is what makes the Filipino Christmas unforgettable – a chance to make others’ wishes come true. Taking it full circle, Wishing Trees were set up in the malls – seamlessly weaving online and on-ground. This campaign made Ayala Malls a Christmas destination and an enabler for people to cherish memories and value things that matter – kindness, generosity, and love for family.

The Wishing Tree, a film created by Ayala Malls utilized the Filipino tradition of “Simbang Gabi” – the devotional Masses on the 9 days leading up to Christmas Day, and are celebrated at dawn – to tell a story of kindness, love, and family relationships. Ayala Malls appealed to people’s generosity by highlighting the concept of a wishing tree where people could make a unique wish – not for themselves but for other people. The message reminded people what it felt like to make somebody else’s wish come true.
